Where I’m From

I am from vans shoes, screen print tees, and those skinny jeans my mom can't stand;

From iPods that feeds me music and carries me from my earthly worries.

I am from that neatly kept house on the corner with the lush green lawn and the rainbow of roses.

I am from my bedroom window, which perfectly frames the Olympic Training Center;

One of only three in the nation, in my own back yard.

I am from the milk before bed and kisses goodnight.

I am from the church and the firm belief that Jesus is real;

That he died so my sins could be forgiven because he loves me that much.

I am from England and its curry and Sheppard's pie.

I am from Scotland and its kilts and bagpipes.

From American and its freedom of speech, press, and religion.

I am from those boxes you see in the garage,

And those dusty old albums that are in that book case no one uses.

From those pictures are my life story, my birthdays, all fourteen of them, my graduations.

My memories.

That made me.

Me.
